When these details are missing, two suppliers can quote products that look almost identical while offering completely different structures.

One may be a lighter standard model. The other may have a heavier base, more support under the steps and stronger handrail connections.

Both quotation lines still say:

The prices are different because the products are different.

Patient Weight Is Only Part of the Load

A patient does not stand still in the centre of the platform during rehabilitation.

They step up, turn, shift their weight and use the handrails for support. Someone who loses balance may pull hard on one side. A therapist may need to move closer and help.

That puts pressure on the rails, joints, steps and base in different ways.

The number of users also matters. Equipment used occasionally in a small clinic does not face the same wear as equipment used throughout the day in an active rehabilitation department.

The handrail may look strong, but what is happening underneath it?

We check how the rail connects to the frame, how the steps are supported and whether the base is wide and heavy enough to keep the unit stable.

The connection points matter because that is where movement often begins. A rail that is repeatedly pulled, adjusted or leaned on can gradually loosen if the joint is too light.

The same applies to the steps. A good anti-slip surface is useful, but the support below the step is what carries the load.

This is why words such as “heavy duty” and “reinforced” are not enough on their own.

A buyer should know what was actually changed:

  • Was the main frame strengthened?
  • Were the step supports improved?
  • Is the base heavier?
  • Are the handrail connections different from the standard version?
  • Is there a clear manufacturer-stated load rating?

Without a confirmed load rating and clear structural details, “high load capacity” is only a sales phrase.

This question is easy to overlook while comparing prices.

It becomes much more important when the equipment reaches a hospital in another country.

A product may be strong once assembled, but the local team still needs to get it to that point.

Problems often start with something small: a bag of mixed bolts, an unclear drawing, one part with no left or right marking, or a connection that needs drilling or welding.

The installer makes a reasonable guess. The stairs appear usable. A few months later, the handrail starts moving.

Then the distributor receives the call.
